BASIC PRINCIPLES
The three basic principles of our playful and creative teaching method are:
1. Speaking the target language at all times
During our 12+ language courses only the target language is spoken. Students as well as instructors abide by this rule. We apply the rule less strictly during the junior day camps for children aged 9-13 in Ghent.
2. Active presence and student interaction.
To encourage students to always speak the target language, we support the principle of ‘active presence’. This means that language instructors are always present and mix with the students, not only during lessons but also during sports activities, games, meals and breaks. There are so many topics to discuss: lessons, games, yesterday’s or tomorrow’s activities, workshops, holidays, family, hobbies, ... Training communicative skills: always and everywhere!
3. Correcting mistakes.
Our language instructors do not only stimulate the students to talk, they also correct their mistakes, improving the language learning process. They do so unobtrusively, encouraging students at the same time. Such individually tailored feedback is typical for our language courses and according to us, a prerequisite to guarantee high quality.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
English is spoken at all times
During our 12+ language courses only the target language is spoken. Students as well as instructors abide by this rule. We apply the rule less strictly during the junior day camps for children aged 9-13 in Ghent.
Mobile Phones
Our courses are total immersion courses. Participants must speak English at all times, and therefore mobile phones are not recommended. They are not allowed during the day (not even for taking pictures) and cannot be used for phoning or being phoned in the participant’s mother tongue. In case of emergency, participants can phone their parents from the school’s office.
Safety
The course director and other head staff members reserve the right to act against participants who jeopardize their own safety or that of others.
Smoking, drugs and alcohol
Smoking is not allowed for anyone under 16. Participants who are over 16 may smoke if their parents or guardian have allowed this in writing on the medical file. Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited.
Holiday atmosphere
A language course should be an unforgettable experience. Friendship, helpfulness and respect for each other and for the language instructors are very important. We expect participants to take part in all activities, creating a fun holiday atmosphere. Arriving later or leaving earlier is not recommended as participants either miss the placement test at the beginning of the camp or the disco evening and workshop presentations at the end.
